Our Mission
The mission of Valmont Butte Heritage Alliance (VBHA) is to protect and preserve Valmont Butte in Boulder County, Colorado, so current and future generations may come to know the sacred cultural, spiritual, and natural resources of this special place.
VBHA has applied for IRS 501(c)3 status. Our fiscal sponsor is Native American Rights Fund, Boulder, Colorado.
Setting a Precedent – A Model of Collaborative Preservation
Working in partnership with the Trust
for Public Land (TPL), the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs,
the Native American Rights Fund and tribal nations to protect the
lands surrounding Valmont Butte. VBHA
intends to eventually manage the land and provide ongoing educational
and cultural programs. The Native American Journalists Association
also supports our alliance.
TPL signed an option on August 29, 2007 to purchase 71 acres of the Valmont Butte land from the City of Boulder. An appraisal is underway which will determine the value of the land and will influence the amount of funds necessary for acquisition or other methods of conservation. The goal is to raise enough from the community to supplement anticipated grants.
VBHA believes diverse ethnic groups, the academic communities,
businesses, and individuals who love the land and enjoy meeting and
sharing with other cultures will want to share in this effort to
provide a legacy of positive collaboration for future generations
